Mercari Stole The Funds From My Sale In A New Way I’ve Never Seen Before

Main Post:

I sold an item on 12/16, and it was delivered by USPS on 12/19. The buyer rated me the following day on 12/20, and Mercari deposited the funds into my account balance. That is, until yesterday, 01/01, when Mercari sent me a poorly written email stating that I needed to do nothing, and they have taken back the money while they investigate an issue with delivery prompted by the buyer.

This is theft, and goes against their own sales policy in which they can only pause payment during the three days a buyer has to rate within. It’s only $12, but the principle of the matter is that they can “take back” your funds, even weeks later. If you read this and think that it won’t happen to you, you’re wrong.

I am writing this to make sure that you will take your money out and transfer it to your bank account every single time you complete a transaction. It’ll be free starting on 01/06, so please, make sure that you don’t end up with a “take-backsie” from Mercari, because it’s not going to be easy dealing with Mercari customer service.

I know I should have withdrawn the balance by now, but I figured there was just a couple of days left until the free balance transfer returned, so I’ve left all of my sales transaction funds there for longer than I should have.

Top Comment: They will do this if the customer reports the item as a replica. It’s a new trick for buyers to get returns after the return window
